Wonderful! Marisa is one talented and inspiration woman! I remember watching my mother and grandmother make jam and pickles (and a disastrous round of dandelion wine) when I was a kid in the late 1960’s and early ’70’s. I started canning 18 years ago when I was pregnant with my youngest, its truly a labor of love (both being pregnant and canning…). Nothing feels so good as stocking the shelves with yummy foods, prepared by in my own kitchen for my family to enjoy.

I love putting food in jars to provide for my family! I also love having jam on hand to use as gifts, barter or thank you’s when people have been incredibly kind. That and some homemade chocolate chip cookies will go a long way in the karma department!

  168. Living near a farmers market makes it easy to get big amount of seasonal produce. I am always inspired to put something new in a jar. Cant wait for pumpkin butter season 🙂

I dream of owning my own land and little farm some day. I recently just purchased canning supplies and am finally fulfilling a goal I have longed to do! Living in Northern Illinois, we do get some bad weather so I will feel more secure having a steady food supply in the home. We grow a lot of our own produce and I am looking forward to preserving. So glad I found this blog and I have signed up for the newsletter. Thanks!

I love the idea that I can enjoy the fruits (&veggies) of my local farmers market year-round by buying in bulk and canning the ingredients. Most recent project was chunky cinnamon applesauce with a hint of lemon zest, yum!

I am already a pack-rat so putting food in jars just makes sense! 😉 Seriously, though, I love feeding my family real food and knowing exactly where our food is coming from. I want my daughter to grow up knowing what a broccoli plant looks like, how to make jam, where her canned tomatoes come from.

  204. Nicolette's avatar Nicolette says:

I put food in jars because I grow so much produce in the summer that I can’t possibly eat it all when it is the best and freshest… but I can have it in the winter time when it is second-best, and it’s still from my garden!

  205. Nicolette's avatar Nicolette says:

The next best thing about putting food in jars is that you can then give it to people you care about.
